GILWND45 GILL Sonic Wind Sensor Front-End Board Ver1.x Command Set

See ASIMET MODULE OPERATIONS document for instructions on how to hook up the comms link to your PC and RS-485 adapter. This board may only be used both as a front-end interface board in conjunction with an VOS/ASIMET C530 logger board.
Refer to Latest Version Information for reference info on latest firmware version numbers.

For further info on the operation of the Gill sensor, refer to the Gill Instruments WindObserver II Ultrasonic Anemometer user manual (available online at http://www.gill.co.uk/)

Note 1: All commands MUST be terminated with <cr> (ASCII carriage return). This is different from other ASIMET front-end boards.

Note 2: commands sent are indicated in BOLD, responses in normal text. <crlf> represents ASCII carriage return and line feed.

Command Description

A Address acknowledge
- returns address of module, terminated by <crlf>
- example:
  #GIL01A GIL01<crlf>
- NOTE 1: GIL01 is the default address of the GILWND45 module; it may be changed by the 'U' command but any failure of EEPROM will result in the use of the default address. In addition, use of defaults is reported in the 'L' command.
- NOTE 2: The address MUST be GIL01 to operate with the C530 main logger board in a sonic wind module
B Display GILL and Compass (do D,G first)
- for in-house testing
C Output calibrated GILL Wind and TCM2 Compass data
- outputs: U, V, Speed of Sound, Temperature, Direction, TiltX, TiltY
  - example:
    #GIL01C 1.22 -3.45 344.51 21.23 245.1 0.2 -0.1<crlf>
- sensor power is turned ON before each 1 minute reading per the O setting under UOK command.
D[0,1] Get/Proc Compass Direction data (display with 'B')
- for in-house testing
E Display both GILL and TCM2
- for in-house testing
E[0,1] Display GILL or TCM2
- for in-house testing
G[0,1] Get/Proc GILL U,V data (display with 'B')

#GIL01H - a multiple line response with text similar to the first line of each command description in this document as the help line, with each line terminated <crlf>, as follows:

	A - Address acknowledge
        B - Display GILL and Compass (do D,G first)
        C - Get Everything - single line output
        D[0,1] - Get/Proc Compass Direction data
        E - Display both GILL and TCM2
        E[0,1] - Get GILL or TCM2

STAT Report ID, serial #, cal info, etc.
- the 'STAT' command provides miscellaneous status information about the module in a multi-line response.
- The number of lines in the response may vary depending upon the EEPROM status. Normally, after an initial <crlf>, 8 lines of info are provided, as follows:

T[V] Enter test mode
- in normal mode (T command), responds with continuous scans of data with <crlf> terminator only (no ETX).
- scans occur every 5 seconds
- data is Gill U (m/s), Gill V (m/s), Gill Speed of Sound, Gill Temp, compass degrees, tilt-x degrees, tilt-y degrees
- for example:

- the command terminates on receipt of an ASCII ESC (1Bh) character.
- C language format: "%7.2f %7.2f %7.2f %7.2f %6.1f %6.1f %6.1f\r\n"
- there is a verbose mode (TV command) that returns the same data in a 3-line format with line headers.
U Update EEPROM contents
- enters the update mode after confirmation of 'OK' password. New EEPROM values may be entered in this mode.
- upon initial entry, you must send the letters OK after the command or the command is ignored, e.g. #GIL01UOK may be sent as one. Upon receipt of the correct 'password', the response will be UOK if current parameters are valid, or NEW if parameters have never been entered or are suspicious (i.e. EEPROM failure or bad internal checksum).
- response to an unknown command is '?'
- IMPORTANT! commands ADR or CD will respond with the current setting when issued followed by <cr> only . If followed by =xxxxx<cr>, where xxxxx is some appropriate value, the EEPROM setting will be changed pending receipt of 'WRTOK' command to make it permanent. Subsequent requests for current settings will report the new value while still in update mode. However, if update mode is exited with 'ABORT', the original settings of all parameters will remain intact.
- the following commands are available in EEPROM update mode:
  - ADR - module Address (1 to 5 characters)
  - ABORT - Abort without writing new info to EEPROM
  - CD - Calibration or setup date
  - WRTOK - Write new info to EEPROM and exit
- examples:

- NOTE: Upon completion, the newly updated module address will not take effect until the next reset or power-up.
